These wraps are a convenient and delicious way to kick-start your day with a hearty and filling meal. Packed with essential nutrients such as protein, carbs, and fiber, breakfast burritos are an excellent choice for a balanced breakfast. In this article, we will explore breakfast burritos in-depth, including their origin and how different types of tortillas can be utilized to create various versions of this classic breakfast dish.

About the breakfast burritos:

Breakfast burritos have been a part of the culinary landscape for a considerable length of time, with their roots traced back to the southwestern region of the United States. Initially developed by Mexican American farm laborers who required a filling and portable meal for work. Breakfast burritos have gained widespread popularity in other areas of the country and are now enjoyed globally.

One of the most appealing aspects of breakfast burritos is their adaptability. They can be made using a diverse range of ingredients, including eggs, bacon, sausage, cheese, vegetables, and salsa, enabling you to tailor your burrito to your taste preferences and dietary needs.

The tortilla is another critical component of breakfast burritos. Typically, flour tortillas, which are soft and malleable, are used to make breakfast burritos. Nevertheless, corn tortillas, which are gluten-free and have a nuttier taste, are also an option. Additionally, whole wheat tortillas are a healthier alternative to white flour tortillas and are a popular choice.

For those feeling more adventurous, experimenting with different tortilla varieties is an option. To boost the nutritional value and flavor of the burrito, add spinach or tomato tortillas, for example. While a flavored tortilla, such as jalapeño or chipotle, can provide a spicy twist to your breakfast burrito.

How to make Breakfast Burritos:

Preparation Time: 35 minutes Cook Time: 05 minutes Serving: 08

Ingredients:

Butter (2 tsp), eggs (8)& salt (to taste): The scrambled eggs will be made with these components. The flavor of the eggs is improved by seasoning them with a few sprinkles of salt and by scrambling them in butter.

Olive oil (1 tbsp): To cook the vegetables.

Tortillas (8): To be able to stuff a lot of filling into each tortilla while still wrapping the burritos firmly, you’ll need large burrito-size tortillas.

Breakfast Sausage (1 lb.): A breakfast burrito is so much more flavorful with sausage! Italian sausage can be used as a substitute if breakfast sausage is unavailable. Before browning the sausage in the skillet, remove it from the casings.

Cheese (2 cups): A must-have is ooey, melty cheese! I enjoy using finely chopped sharp cheddar. You can also use pepper jack cheese or Monterey jack if you prefer heat.

Vegetables (2 cups): You have a ton of versatility in this area! Use your preferred vegetables or whatever else is left in the fridge. Red onion, bell pepper, and mushrooms were all combined.

Instructions:

Sauté the vegetables: Olive oil has been heated in a skillet. Once heated, add the chopped veggies, and simmer them while frequently stirring till tender. After that, put the vegetables in a large mixing bowl.

Cook the sausage: After the sausage is cooked thoroughly, add to the pan & cook it while crumbling the meat. Leaving any grease behind, add the cooked sausage to a bowl with the veggies.

Prepare the scramble eggs: Add a couple pinches of salt to the eggs and whisk to combine. Add the butter after cleaning the skillet. After the butter has melted, add the beaten eggs & scramble them. Scrambled eggs should be added to the bowl containing the sausage and vegetables, and everything should be gently combined.

Assemble the burritos: Each tortilla should have 1/8 of burrito filling placed on top of it, slightly off-center and in a line. The shredded cheese should be added after each tortilla has been wrapped tightly in the burrito fashion.

Bake for the crispiness: The burritos can be served as-is, frozen for later use, or baked for between five & ten mins to crisp all tortillas & melt the cheese.
